Dre Dre (featuring Snoop Dogg) – Dre Day.

After NWA split rap had changed. Boundaries had been smashed open. It was interesting to see what the “solo” acts would put out. Ice Cube released Amerikkka’a Most Wanted. It was ok – but not a patch on NWA.

Then in the early 90’s Dr Dre released The Chronic. Hip Hop changed again. Embracing a more laid back Funkadelic sound the lyrics were still as brutal.

Dre Day via MTV showed the world Snoop Dogg for the first time. At first you wondered what on earth he was doing. He looked out of place – nervous almost. Then after a good minute or so dancing awkwardly in the background he opened his mouth. Quickly you realised Snoop was the star of the album. Moving hip hop onwards The Chronic is a landmark rap album and an anti-superstar was born…
