El Topo (1970).

Alejandro Jodorowsky’s 1970 film El Topo is a movie that will always divide opinion. It’s more like a moving surreal painting than a film.

Powerful. Bizzare. Brave. Off-the-wall. Crazed Spaghetti Western that twists into near religious symbolism. One could see it as just plain stupid – but that would be pure ignorance. It’s a masterpiece.

I was amazed to see that the movie has been posted in its entirety on YouTube. I never knew the film existed until last year. It took me a while to get past the opening 20 minutes as you just go back and watch the opening again and again.

If you have a couple of hours spare over the Easter Break I’d highly recommend a viewing for the most surreal resurrection your ever likely to witness…
