Deep Purple – Child In Time.

I need a Beatles break. I really do. I just played this to blow away the cobwebs.

Child In Time by Deep Purple works better live than on the studio version featured on the 1970 LP In Rock.

I had not seen this live version until today. It looks like the biggest stand-off between audience and band ever recorded. What were most of them even doing there? A random cross section of people watch as Deep Purple just rip-it-up.

The song works a lot better, (like quite a few songs by any artist), if you don’t listen to it for about 5 years. Also of note that the audiences reaction is unintentionally very funny, at least one small boy actually looks terrified.

For such a simple song this is a staggering epic. The vocals are delivered in a way that they should send chills to the listener. Incredible musicianship and one of those if only i’d been there moments.

Wait for the ricochet…
