The Police – Invisible Sun.

In September 1981 The Police released their first single from the forthcoming album Ghost In The Machine. The band were huge and the single was previewed at the end of Top of the Pops. About 30 seconds of the video was shown. The single had just been released and charted at Number 2 the following week. The song was kept off the Number 1 spot by Soft Cell – Tainted Love which went on to be the years biggest selling record despite only being Number 1 for two weeks itself. It’s possible the single was kept off the Number 1 spot when its subject matter was realised. The song was never played on Top of the Pops again and withdrawn from radio playlists. The bands darkest song is still seldom referenced and deserves more credit than it gets. It’s no world changing record but it sure was a brave move and statement from a band at the height of their commercial power…
